Most recently, Davis has focused on TV roles. His breakout role in TV came in 2006 when he portrayed lawyer Adam Hillman on the ABC comedy-drama What About Brian for two seasons. Matthew Davis’ next big role was playing Alaric Saltzman, a history teacher and vampire hunter, in the popular CW fantasy drama series The Vampire Diaries (2009–2017). He later reprised the role for the TV series The Originals (2017–2018), and since 2018 stars as the character in another series spinoff, Legacies.
